Divination for Lammas / Lughnasadh / Kvasi Fest

Yesterday was the first harvest festival of the year, celebrated as Kvasi Fest (see Forn Sidr of America’s post) by Norse pagans, Lughnasadh by our Celtic pagan cousins, and Lammas in the Wiccan-created wheel of the year. Over on Diviners Anonymous we did another set of group divinations. (You can find some of the spreads used below in our free rune booklet (PDF).

A check-in about the coronavirus pandemic, at a time when many provinces are (prematurely) relaxing all restrictions despite the Delta variant being as infectious as chickenpox. Card 1, the issue at hand: Ior, balance or hard choices. Card 2, factors working in favour of success: *Uruz, strength and tenacity. Card 3, the present state (as vaccinated people are able to relax their guard or travel to reunions in places where Delta is not yet causing problems): *Dagaz, illumination or hope. Card 4, factors working against a successful resolution: Kaun reversed, truth (scientific evidence?) being disregarded (by politicians and conspiracists). Card 5, the outcome: *Hagalaz, challenge, disruptions, or loss. I’m reading this as Delta (and possibly other variants) causing another wave of illnesses and shutdowns, with antimask/antivaxx/back-to-business-at-all-costs attitudes playing a role in the spread of the virus.
A reading for myself about my path. I used the Lughnasadh Tarot Spread by Casey Zabala, posted by @WanderersTarot on Instagram (link). What has come to fruition? *Perthro reversed, ‘defied fate’ (a running joke between my fulltrui and me). Your energetic vibe: bindrune of *Gebo and *Ansuz, representing good luck and spiritual devotion (the rune card project going well). Your current phase of growth: *Mannaz, self-care, self-reflection, or relationships (I need to do both self-care and shadow work to prepare for the next part of my studies). How to honour and celebrate this phase of growth: Ac, steadfastnest and endurance (keep studying!). Next phase of growth: *Ansuz, communication (writing!) or coming into a leadership role.
Reading on the climate emergency. Card 1, the issue at hand: Ear, life-and-death. Card 2: “safe journey” a bindrune of *Uruz and *Raidho, reversed; a lack of safety and action. Card 3: *Naudhiz, need, constraint, plight, hardship, pragmatism, or conflict – this could be a warning of coming hardships, or advice to be pragmatic and do what we must. Card 4: Gar, fate, Wyrd, unknowable mystery — we are in uncharted waters, it’s hard to determine the outcome of this issue. Card 5: bindrune of *Laguz, *Ingwaz, and *Ansuz, also containing *Thurisaz – good health, joy, fertitity, vitality — there is hope our society will respond to the climate emergency in time and we’ll build back better.

Summer Solstice divination

Happy Midsommar and blessed Litha, friends! Solstice divination spreads about current events:

This reading was done as part of our group readings on the Discord “Diviners Anonymous” channel, and all three cards came up as reversals, which I read as a lack of the properties of the rune. My question was about the past, present, and future of the coronavirus pandemic, in the context of a Canadian province with a very business-as-usual, laissez-faire approach to pandemic precautions. Past: Algiz reversed, insufficient support, which could also be read as Younger Futhark’s Yr, for death. Present: ALU reversed, a lack of dedication. Future: Uruz reversed, a lack of tenacity, or perhaps a turning point.
This reading was also for Diviners Anonymous’ group readings. My question to my Guides was: what advice do you have for the world regarding the climate crisis?

The second reading uses the snowflake layout included in our rune booklet (PDF link), without the outer ring of cards about the future.

card 1 (centre) = issue at hand or querent or past = the Othala + Laguz bind-rune Erda, representing Mother Earth (per Nigel Pennick’s Complete Guide to Runes)

card 2 (top left) = current global thinking and creativity = *Naudhiz, need, constraint, plight, hardship, pragmatism, or conflict

card 3 (top centre) = current global health or behavior = an Anglo-Saxon bindrune of Stan, Nyd, and Ior once used to prevent action by enemies, “Stop It!”

card 4 (top right) = subconscious and spiritual factors = *Perthro reversed, willful misunderstanding

card 5 (bottom right) = emotions at present = *Othala, home, ancestors, legacy, inheritance

card 6 (bottom centre) = present obstacles = *Isa, stasis, lack of action

card 7 (bottom left) = potential obstacles and hidden influences = Stan, obstruction (by multinational corporations or right-wing politicians) or (ecological) collapse

The “stop it!” card really jumped out at me, and I viewed the runes pulled as advising that we’re risking our inheritance from our ancestors and ecological collapse if our countries don’t begin to treat climate change as an emergency.
